LPN Step-In Program
The LPN Step-In degree is a three-semester program with a spring term start. This program is delivered via a hybrid model. Lectures are online. Labs and clinicals have onsite requirements at NTC and/or at our local clinical agencies. Block scheduling is utilized.
LPN Step-In graduates are eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN exam for licensure as a registered nurse (RN).
On-site Requirements
On-site requirements for lab and clinical courses are discussed during program orientation and specified on the class schedule.
Admission to NTC does not guarantee admission into the LPN Step-In program. Admission to the program is required in order to enroll in nursing classes designated with the ADNG prefix.
LPN Step-In Admission Criteria
Completed application for admission to Northwest Technical College and acceptance to NTC upon submission of LPN Step-In program application.
Prerequisite courses must be completed with grades of C or higher upon submission of program application. Prerequisites include:
BIOL 2221: Microbiology
BIOL 2252: Anatomy & Physiology I
BIOL 2254: Anatomy & Physiology II
CHEM 1100: Intro to Chemistry
ENGL 1111: College Writing I
MATH 1110: College Algebra, or, MATH 1930: Intro to Mathematical Sciences
PSYC 2201: Developmental Psychology
TEAS score on file with NTC and passed with a total score of 64% or higher within two years of applying to the LPN Step-In program (TEAS scores are valid for two years).
- Admission is competitive, so the higher your TEAS score, the better your chance of being accepted.

GPA of 2.76 or above in the LPN Step-In prerequisite courses. Additionally, if co-requisites have been completed at the time of application to the LPN Step-In program, those courses can be added to the GPA calculation.
- Prerequisites: BIOL 2221, BIOL 2252, BIOL 2254, CHEM 1100, ENGL 1111, MATH 1110 or MATH 1930, PSYC 2201
- Co-requisites: BIOL 2256, and PHIL 1201 or PHIL 2210
- Co-requisite courses, if completed, must be grades of C or higher. GPA is not an independent criterion for admission.

At time of application to the LPN Step-In program, all students must provide proof of a current, unencumbered practical nursing license.
Step-In students must have Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross prior to participating in clinicals their first fall semester. NTC’s HPER1410 course meets this requirement.

- Applicants are responsible for the completion of the requirements and the cost of testing.
- Students on current academic probation or suspension may not be considered for program admission.
- Financial holds or unpaid balances must be resolved prior to admission/registration.
- Course work in nursing from other academic institutions is not accepted.
- Applications will be reviewed by the Nursing Admissions Committee. Applicants will receive their acceptance status within 30 days of submitting applications.
