Admissions Team Supports Students from Recruitment to Graduation

The Office of Admissions at Northwest Technical College has new faces on a talented team that approaches every day fueled by their love for students.

Each member of the small team has a variety of responsibilities, and share in the team’s role to recruit students, host campus events, visit college fairs, help new students register for courses, and much more.

Valerie Gorick, an admissions representative who is herself an NTC graduate, says the team is never too busy to support students, no matter what their schedule looks like.

“We will always stop what we are doing to assist a student,” she said. “If one of us cannot help a student, we direct them to someone who can help. No students go unnoticed here.”

NTC’s academic programs offer 38 diplomas, certificates and associate’s degrees in five in-demand career paths, creating opportunities for students of any background and age. NTC supports students at all stages of their journeys, whether they are taking college courses in high school as part of the Post-Secondary Education Option (PSEO) program, or returning to college after spending time in the workforce.

Samuel Stish, who joined the team in August 2023 as an admissions representative, helps PSEO students with the enrollment process at NTC. He finds the role rewarding because of the noticeable personal growth he can see in the students he works with.

“I tend to help younger students, which can sometimes involve more guidance,” he said. “My position at NTC gives me the amazing opportunity to see growth in our students and to celebrate their accomplishments with them.”

Mari Jordan is the newest member of the team, coming to NTC as a student recruitment and success advisor in December 2023. She specializes in advising for NTC’s health sciences programs and has already formed meaningful connections with her students.

“I help students select the classes they need and make sure they have all of the prerequisites they need to apply to the nursing program,” Jordan said. “I love the work I do because I know I am preparing them for being out in the workforce one day.”

The team also gets support from Viola Anderson, administrative assistant for NTC’s health and human services programs, who works in the Office of Admissions three days a week. She joined NTC in November 2023.

“We pride ourselves on teamwork and we are so thankful to have Viola as part of our team,”  Gorick said.

NTC’s admissions team does more than just recruit students to the college. They build relationships with students that begin during the college search process and continue through graduation.

“We are very student-focused,” Gorick said. “You are not a number; you are a person and part of our family when you are here.”
