Nursing Students Complete Culture Research to Inform Patient Care

Nursing students at Northwest Technical College recently completed a culture-based poster project for campus.

Students worked in pairs to create an educational poster meant to inform others on a different cultures.

The project was a collaborative effort between nursing instructors Loretta Vobr, Nicole Larson and Jennifer Morehart in NTC’s associate of science and practical nursing programs.

Michele Brielmaier, NTC’s dean of nursing and human services, said the culture project encouraged students to explore and learn about other cultures.

“As nurses we work with people from all walks of life. We must be willing to acknowledge how a person’s cultural norms may affect the way that they interact with healthcare,” she said. “This leads to overall better patient care because patients understand that we’re willing to acknowledge those things that are important to them.”
