CONE 2204

Heating/Cooling Controls

Credits: 4

Description: This course introduces basic electric heating, gas, oil, and heat pump and cooling system installation and control. Topics included are installing wiring for heating and air conditioning systems, replacing controls, measuring instruments, and schematic interpretation. Prerequisite(s): CONE1116 or instructor permission

Competencies

  1. Demonstrate basic safety procedures to protect the learners, componets, and equipment.
  2. Identify components, symbols and circuits of HVAC
  3. Identify types of electric motors used with HVAC equipment
  4. Analyze thermostat operations.
  5. Describe utility company heating, load managament programs.
  6. Interpret gas, oil, electric,and heatpump interconections.
  7. Calculate heating and air conditioning load requirements for residential homes.
  8. Describe hydronic heat systems
  9. Calculate electric heat conductor sizes.
  10. Install high and low voltage thermstats.
  11. Identify relays and contactors used in heating and cooling.
  12. Describe the use of a volt-ohm meter and a clamp-on amp meter in the heating and cooling industry.
