The inauguration ceremony for President John Hoffman is scheduled for Oct. 14

The public and media are invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of Dr. John L. Hoffman, president of Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, on Oct. 14.

The ceremony is scheduled from 2-3:30 p.m. at the BSU Gymnasium, inside the university’s Physical Education Complex. A reception will be held following the event in the John Glas Fieldhouse foyer. Light refreshments will be served.

Before becoming president at BSU and NTC, Hoffman served as vice chancellor for academic and student affairs and senior vice chancellor at the University of Minnesota Crookston. Previously, he held faculty and a variety of administrative positions within the California State University between 2004 and 2018 including chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and director of the Doctor of Educational Leadership Program.

Prior appointments include service as dean of students at Concordia University, Irvine from 1998 to 2004, multiple student affairs roles at Concordia University, St. Paul from 1995 to 1998, and a year of service as a major gifts officer at Concordia University, Nebraska from 1994 to 1995. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University, Nebraska, and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

Hoffman was named president of BSU and NTC on March 16, 2022 by the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. His appointment became effective July 1. Hoffman succeeded Faith Hensrud, who served as president from 2016 to 2022.
