NTC Foundation Scholarship Helps Leister Pursue Career in Nursing

Northwest Technical College’s Happiness Leister was born and raised in Kenya. Moving to Bemidji, Minnesota in 2017, she is pursing a career in nursing with the help of the Mississippi Headwaters Blood Bank Scholarship.

The Mississippi Headwaters Blood Bank Scholarship is an $800 scholarship awarded to students who pursue an education in a medical field related to hematology or phlebotomy through a trade/tech school. After working as a certified nursing assistant for a year, Leister decided to further her career in heath care.

“I have a passion for helping others and that’s the main reason I chose nursing,” she said. “The scholarship will relieve me the financial burden off me and grant me more more time for reading as nursing school can be stressful.”

Leister said the support she has received from Tyler Peterson, student success center director, has also helped her work towards her dreams.

“Tyler Peterson has been of great help towards my success ever since I joined NTC, he is always ready to help whenever I have questions.”

Northwest Technical College will host a 24-hour “Make your Mark” scholarship fundraiser on Nov. 10 in conjunction with its second annual day of giving.

The day will provide an opportunity for alumni, students, parents, friends, staff, faculty and community members to give back to NTC with the goal of raising $25,000 in 24 hours.

Donors can make a gift to NTC by texting “NTC” to 50155 or by visiting https://secure.qgiv.com/for/ndog/.
