Northwest Technical College hosts 5th Annual Nite at the Races fundraiser

On Friday, May 3, Northwest Technical College and the NTC Foundation will host their fifth annual Nite at the Races fundraising gala.

The event, which includes NTC’s traditional “Run for the Roses” hat parade, begins at 5 p.m. in the Beaux Arts Ballroom in Bemidji State University’s upper Hobson Memorial Union.

Tickets are $40; $30 of the ticket price is considered a tax-deductible donation to the NTC Foundation. The ticket price includes a pasta bar and $120 in “race money” to be used for bets on the evening’s horse races.

Tickets are on sale at Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, on the corner of 5th Street and Beltrami Ave. in downtown Bemidji, or by calling the NTC Foundation Office, (218) 333-6678. There is a limit of 200 tickets available, so attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to guarantee attendance.

Races for the NTC Foundation’s Nite at the Races get underway at 7 p.m. Participants select and place bets using race money on horses from a race list. Race money is available at the event’s bank. Betting windows open with the event’s doors at 5 p.m.

Races will be held throughout the evening to support specific academic and student-service programs at the College.

The “Run for the Roses” hat parade begins at 6:30 p.m., which features prizes for women, men and, for the first time, couples wearing their favorite hats. Prizes will be awarded for the finest and craziest hats.

A cash bar will be available, and silent and live auction items will be available throughout the evening.

This year’s Nite at the Races event is sponsored by Affinity Plus Credit Union, First National Bank Bemidji, Bemidji Area Auto Dealers, Paul Bunyan Broadcasting and BSU Hockey Suite 19.

Sponsors of the scholarship race are Sanford Health; Finishing Touch Landscape/Dickey’s BBQ; Paul Bunyan Communications; Clarity Glass & Dick’s Plumbing; Zetah Construction & Dynamic Homes; North Country Business Products; Headwaters Dental Society; Trauma Queens; Higgins Heating; and Wiebolt Electric.
