Small Business Development Center offers profit mastery workshop

Owners, managers and advisors of small businesses can learn to better understand financial management and gain valuable tips and tricks to navigate today’s difficult economic climate in a pair of workshops offered by the Northwest Regional Small Business Development Center.

The two-day workshop, “Profit Mastery: Creating Value and Building Wealth,” will be offered at two locations in northeast Minnesota. The first workshop will be held Oct. 3-4 in Crookston; the second will be held Oct. 9-10 in Bemidji.

The Crookston workshop will be held at Crookston Valley Technology Park, located at 510 County Road 71 in Crookston. The Bemidji session will be held at the SBDC offices on the campus of Northwest Technical College, located at 1103 Roosevelt Road SE in Bemidji. The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days.

Research indicates that more than half of the businesses that fail in the United State each year do so despite reporting profits and record sales. The most-successful businesses have found the key to long-term success revolves around effective financial management.

The profit mastery workshop will include presentations on financial statement analysis; cash flow planning; planning for growth, cost, volume and pricing issues; and determining the right kind of financing for a particular business. Participants will practice using case studies and by examining real-life examples.

Pre-registration is required. For more information on location, times and registration information, contact the center at (218) 755-4255 or Amanda Nygaard, SBDC program coordinator, (218) 299-3037 or anygaard@cord.edu.

The workshop is sponsored by the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, the Northwest Minnesota Small Business Development Association and Google.
