PLHE 2135

HVAC Code Interpretation

Credits: 2

Description: This course covers the National Fuel Gas Code Book and its requirements for the major and minor fuels used to heat buildings and the national venting code requirements for buildings. The International Mechanical Code and the Minnesota Energy Code and their applicable requirements will also be discussed. Emphasis is placed on understanding the scope and purpose of the codes and how they relate to health and life safety issues. Prerequisite(s): None

  1. Acquire understanding of the National Fuel Gas Code and International Mechanical Code books
  2. Analyze procedures and materials used in outdoor and indoor gas piping
  3. Analyze materials and procedures used in flue gas venting
  4. Acquaint self with applicable requirements of the International Mechanical Codes book (UMC)
  5. Analyze other code requirements
  6. Analyze and perform ventilation sizing for different building
