Intro to Computers - Medical Applications

Credits: 3

Description: This course will introduce students to concepts and skills they will need for a successful career in the medical office field. Students will receive instruction on key tasks for studying medical assisting, health information management and health information technology. In addition, the course will cover word processing, excel, power-point, access, email, Internet and Desire to Learn. Prerequisite(s): None

Credit Breakdown: 2/1/0 (Lecture/Lab/On the job training)


This course should help you gain the following abilities and competencies.

Core Abilities

  1. Use D2L to access and submit coursework, quizzes, communication, and grades
  2. Access student email services to send and receive email including attachments
  3. Use Windows to create and manage files and folders.
  4. Use MS Word to create and edit documents.
  5. Use MS Excel to create spreadsheets with formulas.
  6. Use MS Access to design, enter data, and query database tables
  7. Use MS PowerPoint to create presentations.
  8. Integrate MS word, excel, access and powerpoint
  9. Use MediSoft software to schedule appointments and generate reports.
