{"id":858,"date":"2016-06-08T15:52:01","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T20:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ntcmn.edu\/news\/?p=858"},"modified":"2016-06-08T15:52:01","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T20:52:01","slug":"bemidji-pioneer-ntc-earns-reaccreditation-from-higher-learning-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ntcmn.edu\/news\/2016\/06\/08\/bemidji-pioneer-ntc-earns-reaccreditation-from-higher-learning-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Bemidji Pioneer: NTC earns reaccreditation from Higher Learning Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">BEMIDJI &mdash; Northwest Technical College has been recommended for reaccreditation with the Higher Learning Commission following a months-long evaluation process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The commission&rsquo;s Institutional Actions Council voted on the status of the school last month, approving a plan that calls for NTC to undergo another evaluation beginning in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&ldquo;Northwest Technical College plays a vital role in workforce and career development in the Bemidji community and in our region,&rdquo; Bob Griggs, the college&rsquo;s interim dean, said in a press release. &ldquo;This accreditation process has been an invaluable opportunity for the college to examine ourselves and learn how we can continue to improve.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Higher Learning Commission accredits post-secondary schools across the Midwest, evaluating colleges on their mission, integrity, academics and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">NTC has been accredited since 1995 and was last reaccredited in 2014-15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">School officials had been working toward this year&rsquo;s reaccreditation since last year. An NTC task force spent last summer preparing a 112-page document making the school&rsquo;s case, and in the fall, they were visited by representatives from the commission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&ldquo;This required enormous preparation, and the team not only met an incredibly difficult timeline,&rdquo; Griggs said, &ldquo;but also produced a high-quality Assurance Argument that resulted in a positive recommendation for continuing accreditation.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">As a condition of its reaccreditation, NTC is required by the commission to submit two additional reports: one in May 2017 and another in May 2018. The first report will detail the school&rsquo;s adherence to credit hour policies.
