{"id":4996,"date":"2022-08-15T10:06:37","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T15:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ntcmn.edu\/news\/?p=4996"},"modified":"2022-08-15T10:06:37","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T15:06:37","slug":"wounded-healers-will-present-history-of-black-oppression-aug-19-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ntcmn.edu\/news\/2022\/08\/15\/wounded-healers-will-present-history-of-black-oppression-aug-19-20\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Wounded Healers&#8221; Will Present History of Black Oppression Aug. 19-20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College invites employees, students, community members and the media to performances of &ldquo;Wounded Healers,&rdquo; a spoken word production that presents the history of African American trauma caused by racist policies and institutions in the United States, at Bemidji State University&rsquo;s Beaux Arts Ballroom on August 19 and 20.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Wounded Healers&rdquo; is an educational theatrical performance written and composed by Dr. Timothy Berry, interim associate vice president for faculty affairs and equity initiatives at Minnesota State University, Mankato.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The production is a live experiential performance that sheds light on the trauma unleashed on Black bodies due to racism,&rdquo; Steven Parker, campus diversity officer and Title IX coordinator for BSU and NTC, said. &ldquo;The production engages spoken word, music, acting and discussion to holistically tell a story of truth.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Friday&rsquo;s performance is open to employees of BSU and NTC only. Students, community members and the media are invited to Saturday&rsquo;s performance. Both performances will be held at Beaux Arts Ballroom in BSU&rsquo;s Hobson Memorial Union.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First Performance of &ldquo;Wounded Healers&rdquo;<\/strong><br>\n<em>Open to employees of BSU and NTC only<\/em><br>\nFriday, August 19<br>\n9 &ndash; 11 a.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second Performance of &ldquo;Wounded Healers&rdquo;<br>\n<\/strong><em>Open to students, community members and media<\/em><br>\nSaturday, August 20<br>\n7:30 &ndash; 9:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>There is no cost to attend (donations welcome).
