A Day of Aging Awareness
Wednesday, September 28, 2022
CANCELLED
Creating age-friendly communities is no small task. Everyone has been — or will be — impacted by aging, either as an individual or a caregiver.
To help prepare the next generation of community members, caregivers, and family members for their role(s), Northwest Technical College’s – Gerontology Program & Aging Care Program, in partnership with the Remember Project, Northwoods Caregivers, and North Country Vocational Cooperative will be offering A Day of Aging Awareness at Bemidji State University on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, for regional high school students.
Students, and their adult chaperones, will be spending the day learning more about the dementia-friendly community movement and how they can lend their actions to building an inclusive community in their hometown, and beyond.
Students will:
- Become Dementia Friends by participating in a Dementia Friends Information Session
- Attend a Career Expo
- Participate in a live Remember Project event featuring the short play Fortune Cookies
- Explore NTC and BSU during optional tours
Teachers and adult chaperones are encouraged to sign up for the Virtual Dementia Simulator. Spots are limited!
We are convinced that this program will help the next generation gain a better understanding of aging and take steps on the journey to help those who are experiencing memory loss (and their caregivers) have the support they need in this region.
