Optivation offering boiler operator training at NTC

Northwest Technical College’s Optivation venture will hold a boiler operator licensure course on the NTC campus beginning Nov. 5.

The 10-session course will prepare boiler operators or students preparing to become boiler operators to take the Minnesota High Pressure Boiler Exam (levels A & B) or the Minnesota Low Pressure Boiler Exam (level C) for special engineers, second-class engineers, first-class engineers or chief engineers.

Course content for low-pressure boilers will cover low pressure valves, steam traps, pumps, flame safeguards, burners, safety valves, boiler room safety and hot water boilers.

For high-pressure boilers, the course will cover condensers, steam engines, mathematical formulas related to boilers, boiler room safety and hot water boilers.

The course will be held from 4-8 p.m. on a 10-day schedule between Nov. 5 and Dec. 13, in room 328 at Northwest Technical College. The course meets Nov. 5, 9, 15, 19, 26 and 29; and Dec. 3, 6, 10 and 13. The boiler operator course carries a registration fee of $425, which includes all necessary books.
