Financial Aid - What's next after my application is turned in?

1. Once you have completed both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the NTC Financial Aid Application form, we will process your application. NOTE: You must re-apply for financial aid each year you are in attendance. It doesn’t carry over from one year to the next.
2. Approximately 4-6 weeks after you submit your FAFSA, you will receive a SAR (Student Aid Report) OR an Information Acknowledgment Form. Please review it for accuracy and notifiy NTC’s Financial Aid Office of any errors or discrepancies.
3. Once we have received all required paperwork, we will send you an award letter informing you what type(s) and amounts of financial aid you are eligible to receive. NOTE: Please respond promptly to any request you receive from us asking for more information. We can’t send you an award letter until we have all the information we need.
4. Next you will receive a promissory note for any federal direct student loan funds listed on your award letter. This note needs to be completed and returned to the NTC Financial Aid Office. If you have never before received a student loan at NTC, you will also need to complete entrance counseling when you arrive on campus.
5. If you are eligible and you wish to apply for work study and/or state child care grant funds, you will need to complete a separate application for each. These applications are available from the Financial Aid Office.
6. Financial aid funds (grants, scholarships, loans, etc.) are credited to your college account. Once charges (including tuition, fees, books, etc.) are deducted from your account, you will receive a check for any remaining funds. Checks are processed every Tuesday and Thursday; please watch the list outside the Bookstore to see when your check is ready. Checks are distrubuted only after we verify your academic progress with your instructor(s)—in other words, you must be attending classes in order to get your check!
