Nursing AS Program

Course Prerequisites

College Admission Requirements for AS Nursing Majors

  1. General college requirements:
    • Official high school transcript or GED
    • Immunization forms
    • Assessment or Assessment waiver (see #2 below)
    • Official transcripts from all colleges previously attended
  2. ACCUPLACER assessment in reading/writing is waived for the ASN applicant. Accuplacer assessment in math is required. Waivers may be granted in some cases (see NTC Policy 3100-1-01 College Readiness Assessment).
  3. Official transcript evidencing graduation from a state approved Diploma or AASPN program from a regionally accredited college/university within the last two years or the equivalent of six months of full-time work experience as a LPN in good standing (must be verified by letter from employer).
  4. Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. The combined cumulative GPA from all previous post-secondary education will be used to calculate the GPA. Applicants on academic probation or suspension will not be eligible for admission.
  5. Chemistry with a lab - one semester of college chemistry (minimum of 3 credits) and an earned grade of C or higher.
  6. Anatomy and Physiology must have been taken within the past seven years OR you must have taken at least one course that refreshed this content within the past seven years such as Anatomy & Physiology II or
    Advanced Physiology.

Additional Documentation

Following program acceptance additional documentation is needed (acceptance conditional until these requirements are met):

  • Consent to Disclose/Allied Health Division Student Data form complete and on file.
  • Background study completion upon program entry and annually thereafter. Evidence of “clearance” (approval to provide healthcare) must be on file prior to clinical courses.
  • Unencumbered LPN licensure upon acceptance or within 8 weeks of program start for recent PN graduates (or prior to start of clinical course, whichever comes first).
  • CPR certification (either American Heart Association CPR for Healthcare Providers or the American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuers) must be current and maintained throughout the program.
