Application Criteria - Generic Track

All deadlines are for Fall admission.

Admission to NTC

Step 1 — Complete the Online Application and pay the $20 application fee.

Step 2 — Send Northwest Technical College your high school transcript or GED.

Step 3 — If you have attended another college, please forward all official transcripts from the colleges you have attended. We can automatically access transcripts from any MnSCU college or university.

Applications to the Nursing program are reviewed after March 1. Official transcripts of credits transferred from other post-secondary schools must be available in the NTC Admissions Office by March 1 to be considered for admittance to the Nursing major.

Application to AD Nursing Major (Generic Option)

Admission to the AD nursing major is a separate process from admission to Northwest Technical College, and is required in order to enroll in AD (ADNG) nursing courses. Students wishing to apply for admission to the nursing major should complete the following steps:

  • Complete application to NTC no later than March 1.
  • Take TEAS test prior to March 1.
  • Complete the Accuplacer prior to March 1.
    • Accuplacer Registration
    • Complete all areas: Math, Reading, Writing, and any recommended college readiness courses prior to fall semester.
  • Complete the Programs Requirements (see below) before beginning the program.

Admission to the AD Major

Admission to the nursing major is competitive and limited. Admission is dependent on the number of applications and evidence of meeting the following requirements:

  • TEAS is the deciding factor for admission to the program. Applicants with the highest TEAS scores will be admitted to the program.
  • International students and all students that graduate from a high school outside of the United States must meet these minimum National Council of State Boards of Nursing TOEFL scores:
    • Written Overall score of 560
    • CBT Overall score of 220
    • iBT Overall score of 83

Applications will be reviewed immediately after the March 1 deadline. The Admissions Committee will notify students of their status after all qualified applicants have completed the admissions process. Students are responsible for the completion of the requirements and the cost of the testing.

Program Requirements

All AD students are required to complete the following before beginning the program:

  • CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) course completion — Requirements for meeting the Nursing Assistant pre-requisite are as follows (waived with a Licensed Practical Nurse license):
    • Students must show evidence of taking a Nursing Assistant course from an approved site within the past five years; OR
    • Students must show evidence of a current Nurses Aide Certificate or Registration (from an appropriate regulatory agency, such as the State Department of Health) AND proof of a Nursing Assistant course from an approved site.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR certification — Students must provide a photocopy of current card/certificate. Certification must be maintained throughout program completion. Note: AHA Heartsaver courses do not meet this requirement and will not be accepted.
  • Background studies – Students accepted into the program must complete both State and National background checks.  Any student who is not cleared to provide direct patient care will not be permitted to participate in clinical experiences, thereby rendering the individual ineligible to progress in the nursing program and qualify for a degree in nursing.  Information for completing the background studies will be provided.  The program cannot accept background studies done for another agency.
