Environmental Design Technology and Production

Welcome to the Environmental Design program. This is a challenging program that prepares graduates for careers in the landscape design and construction indstry. Landscape contractors and designers work for private companies, public agencies, and as entrepreneurs to build and manage the outdoor environments. Examples of the kinds of projects you would work on include public parks, ball fields, golf courses, commercial business sites, city street environments, and residential landscapes.

We prepare learners to create and manage the outdoor environments of the future, utilizing sustainable practices and ecologically compatible resources. Learners develop a combination of technical, business management, and academic abilities that serve as a foundation for their future careers. Course work emphasizes development of the problem solving and critical thinking skills necessary for further career advancement.

Our courses include a combination of hands on, distance learning, and classroom formats with emphasis on real world experience. Graduates of the Northwest Technical College program in Environmental Design Technology and Production will:

  1. Be eligible to take the Certified Landscape Technician - Exterior exam.
  2. Be able to build and manage outdoor environments utilizing sound and environmentally compatible methods and materials, toward the creation of an ecologically sustainable human environment.
  3. Be prepared to use good judgment in the management of people and resources during the course of business, grounded in the ethical treatment of colleagues and clients.
  4. Have a foundation of problem solving and critical thinking skills upon which they may build a career through increased management responsibility, entrepreneurship, or advanced professional education.
