MODL 2210

Model Processes I

Credits: 3

Description: This course is an introduction to model making equipment and operation fundamentals. This course includes the safe operation of traditional woodworking and metal machining equipment. Prerequisite(s): None

This course should help you gain the following abilities and competencies.

Competencies

  1. Demonstrate basic safety procedures designed to protect the learners and equipment.
  2. Describe various types of materials used to construct models.
  3. Demonstrate proper usage of traditional (wood/metal/plastic) shop equipment.
  4. Complete exercises using measuring tools and equipment to an accuracy of plus/minus .001" to .003"
  5. Identify parts, functions and capabilities of traditional shop equipment.
  6. Identify, select and properly use various kinds of hand tools indigenous of the metal machining and woods industry.
  7. Select various stationary and rotating cutting tools for machining operations.
  8. Perform basic manipulative skills utilzing traditional shop equipment.
  9. Identify types of wood and synthetic materials.
  10. Identify career and training opportunities in the model making industry.
  11. Identify problems associated with set up and machining of materials with wood/plastics.
  12. Construct projects utilizing materials common to model shop.
