Molding/Casting

Credits: 4

Description: This course includes patternmaking, molding and casting with the applied use of silicone rubber, understand principles of parting line blocks and techniques of building parting line blocks, and casting of polyurethane and epoxy resins. Prerequisite(s): None

  1. Demonstrate draft on parts and components
  2. Define release agents used in demolding process
  3. Demonstrate usage of silicone and resin for creating molds and part duplication
  4. Describe various processes of mold injection
  5. Compare and contrast silicone mold making techniques vs. non-traditional part reproduction
  6. Simulate usage of flat back vs. two part mold
  7. Identify different silicones utilized for mold construction
  8. Apply problem solving techniques to the design of silicone molds
  9. Prepare a model for molding and part reproduction
  10. Demonstrate insertion of vents and gates
  11. Demonstrate construction of mold box
