METC 1070

Manufacturing Engineering Processes

Credits: 4

Description: This course will introduce traditional manufacturing processes including: casting, molding, forming, separating, conditioning, assembly, and finishing. Included in the course is a broad overview of the manufacturing industry, the various jobs within the industry, and common organizational structures. Contemporary manufacturing trends will be explored, as swell as looking at the diversity and changes that are occurring in manufacturing on a global scale. The learner will complete a capstone project that demonstrates knowledge of the major processes by comparing and contrasting the applicable processes and completing an economic cost benefit analysis rational to support their research. Prerequisite(s): None

  1. Identify the organizational structure(s) found in contemporary manufacturing organizations of varying scale and infrastructure complexity
  2. Recognize concurrent process/product design and how the various organizational functional areas work together
  3. Relate knowledge of safety as applied to manufacturing and industrial settings
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of industrial materials used in manufacturing
  5. Examine Casting/Molding processes as they apply to manufacturing and industrial settings
  6. Examine Forming processes as they apply to manufacturing and industrial settings
  7. Examine Separating processes as they apply to manufacturing and industrial settings
  8. Examine Conditioning processes as they apply to manufacturing and industrial settings
  9. Examine Assembly processes as they apply to manufacturing and industrial settings
  10. Examine Finishing processes as they apply to manufacturing and industrial settings
  11. Determine efficient/effective Process design by comparing available processes
  12. Explore Automation in manufacturing
  13. Explore contemporary manufacturing trends that are pertinent at the time of course delivery i.e. Lean manufacturing, Six sigma, etc)
  14. Create Learner Artifact
