Forestry Courses

Capstone

Credits: 2

Description: This capstone course provides an opportunity for learners to integrate the knowledge and concepts learned throughout the entire forest technology curriculum. The course will study the Minnesota Forest Management Guidelines. Learners will be required to complete a field inventory of a 120 acre forest area, and using the Forest Management Guidelines, develop a forest management plan with accompanying GIS based maps for the area. Prerequisite(s): Instructor permission

Competencies

  1. Measure and map forest stands on the Lindgren Lake study area
  2. Develop a plan for timber management on the Lindgren Lake study area
  3. Demonstrate professionalism in the development of a management plan
  4. Make a base map of the pfm project using GPS, GIS, and arerial photo technology
  5. Measure stands on the PFM area for volume and stocking
  6. Develop a management plan for a private forest owner that meets criteria for a state pfm plan
