Fire Tech Courses

FIRE 1108

Firefighter II

Credits: 2

Description: This course covers the objectives of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association (MSFCA) for certification as a Firefighter I and Firefighter II. The MSFCA objectives are based on the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) 1001 Standard on Fire Fighter Professional qualifications. This will prepare the learner to function at or above the minimum level of training for entry into a fire protection career field. Prerequisite(s): None Corequisite(s): FIRE1107

  1. Participate in fire fighter safety practices
  2. Follow established procedures for transfering command within the incident command system
  3. Demonstrate proper techniques for mounting and dismounting the apparatus
  4. Develop an incident action plan
  5. Demonstrate a "Mayday" call
  6. Perform as part of a Rapid Intervention Team (RIC).
  7. Demonstrate proper salvage cover techniques
  8. Operate fire protection systems
  9. Perform an offensive fire attack
  10. Perform a defensive fire attack
  11. Prepare sketches or drawings of a target hazard
  12. Perform a vehicle rescue and extrication
  13. Demonstrate how to conduct a proper fire scene investigation
