CONE 2225

Transformers

Credits: 2

Description: This course covers the concepts of transformer operation. Single-phase and three-phase (polyphase) transformer operation and installation methods are explored. Included in the course are the following topics: transformer operation, transformation relationships, transformer losses, transformer types, transformer testing, series and parallel operation, connections, instrument transformers, and maintenance procedures. National Electrical Code requirements for transformer installations are developed and utilized. Prerequisite(s): CONE1108

  5. Define and describe 3-phase circuits.
  6. Describe connections in 3-phase transformer circuits.
  7. Connect single phase transformers.
  8. Make 3-phase transformer connections.
  9. Define and describe harmonics.
  10. Define a generator and describe the process of power generation.
  11. Describe applications of an insolation transformer.
  12. Define an autotransformer and the uses for.
  13. Describe and connect a buck-boost transformer.
  14. Describe and connect a control transformer.
  15. Identify transformer voltage and phase options as they relate to ther transformer selection process.
  16. Identify the transformer maintenace.
  17. Apply the National Electric Code to transformer installation.
