CONE 2207

Intro to Commercial Wiring

Credits: 4

Description: This course examines the material and design aspects of commercial wiring. Topics included are raceways, boxes, design requirements for conduit layouts, circuit overcurrent protection and lighting. Prerequisite(s): BLDG1102, CONE1104, CONE1122

Competencies

  1. Identify and calculate the NEC requirements for a commercial installation.
  2. Identify and install devices and components for commercial installations.
  3. Select and install conduit per instalation requirements and the NEC.
  4. Determine the proper size and type of raceway, conductors and devices as they pertain to a branch circuit.
  5. Design a basic commercial wiring application, both power and lighting
  6. Demonstrate proper installation of commercial wiring methods including selection of raceways, conductors, junction boxes, and devices.
  7. Describe the different types of luminaires and the correct installation for different applications.
  8. Demonstrate basic safety procedures designed to protect the learners, components, and equipment.
  9. Recognize different types of voltages and their correct applications
  10. Demonstrate how to identify and determine the correct circuit breaker or fuse size.
  11. Calculate the correct size and type of panel boards for different locations and requirements.
  12. Calculate and install 3 and 4 bend saddles, offsets, kicks, and 90 degree bends.
