CONE 1102

Intro to Electrical Circuit Theory

Credits: 4

Description: This introductory course provides the knowledge of electrical theory including atomic structure, Ohm's Law, complex circuits, sine wave principles, inductive and capacitive circuits as it relates to the National Electrical Code. Prerequisite(s): None

This course should help you gain the following abilities and competencies.

Competencies

  1. Demonstrate basic safety procedures designed to protect the learners, components, and equipment.
  2. Analyze series and parallel current paths and the laws that govern them.
  3. Identify and solve problems associated with both, series and parallel circuits.
  4. Construct and verify operation of DC circuits.
  5. Define Ohm's law and use it to solve for resistance, current, and voltage.
  6. Describe various types of resistive materials and how resistors are used in electrical circuits.
  7. Describe basic concepts of electricity.
  8. Accurately read analog and digital multi-meters and install them properly in circuits so they may be used for circuit analysis.
  9. Define the principles of magnetic fields, electromagnetic induction.
  10. Identify voltage sources and describe their proper application.
  11. Demonstrate procedures for troubleshooting of electrical circuits.
