Plans and Specifications

Credits: 2

Description: This course provides the learner with a working knowledge of blueprints and specifications. The learner gains an understanding of blueprints, then interprets and applies this knowledge to job situations. Prerequisite: None

Credit Breakdown: 1/1/0 (Lecture/Lab/On the job training)


This course should help you gain the following abilities and competencies.

Core Abilities

  1. Demonstrate thinking/active learning skills.


  1. Define working drawings and prints.
  2. Recognize and interpret the information contained on various sectional detail drawings.
  3. Recognize various views of an object and identify the dimension shown on the front, top, and side views.
  4. Describe the use of symbols and abbreviations.
  5. Explain how cutting plains relate to floor plans.
  6. Define elevations and explain contour lines.
  7. Identify mechanical systems from related details and drawings.
  8. Identify all construction documents required in the completed building process.
  9. Apply use scale measuring on drawings and prints.
