Supplemental Inflatable Restraint

Description: This course covers the theory of operation, and troubleshooting procedures of supplemental restraint systems (SRS) used on domestic manufacturer's automobiles and light trucks. Prerequisite(s): None

  1. Explain the purpose of passive restraint systems.
  2. Describe the basic operation of passive seat belt systems.
  3. Describe the common components of an air bag system.
  4. List the components of the air bag modal.
  5. Describe the function of the cockspring.
  6. Describe the operation of different types of air bag sensors.
  7. List the sequence of events that occur during air bag deployment.
  8. Describe normal operation of the air bag system warning light.
  9. Describe the operation of a hybrid inflator module, and explain the advantages of this type of module.
  10. Explain the function of multistage air bags.
  11. Explain the function of the side-impact air bags.
  12. Describe the purpose and operation of seat belt pretensioners.
  13. Describe the function of occupant classification systems.
  14. Diagnose passive restraint systems.
  15. Repair passive restrain systems.
