Principles of Bookkeeping

Credits: 3

Description: This course covers the basic accounting cycle for service and merchandising businesses. Topics include the analyses of business transactions, recording transactions in a variety of journals, payroll procedures and the preparation of financial reports. Prerequisite(s): None

  1. Apply the accounting equation and the double-entry framework
  2. Journalize and post transactions
  3. Perform service and merchandising accounting functions
  4. Identify and use special journals
  5. Complete end of the period adjustments
  6. Calculate employee earning and deductions
  7. Prepare payroll journal entries and reports
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of accounting procedures for cash and bank accounts
  9. Demonstrate understanding of accounting theory
  10. Apply accounting methods for inventory
